My own Reality Check is part of the sale, so give the image a click and see what looks interesting, won’t you?

New! Audiobook of Trans-Continental: Girl in the Gears (narrated by Angel Clark) #transgender #steampunk @SussexAngelC

Girl in the Gears Audiobook CoverSurprise! This is my very first audiobook, and it was an amazing experience working with professional voice talent, Angel Clark on the project! She did a wonderful job voicing the characters and bringing Girl in the Gears to life.

The 17 chapters work out to 15-20 minutes each, for a total of 4 hours, so if you listen to podcasts and audiobooks during drive time or exercise, these should be convenient episodes for you.

If you want to be the first, outside of myself, Angel Clark, and her producer, to hear this transgender steampunk audiobook, click on the image to the right and get yours today!

Queen Melony of Trans-Continental: Mississippi Queen for Whiteboard Wednesday! #transgender #steampunk #whiteboardwednesdays

Queen Melony

In Trans-Continental’s Free City of New Orleans, Queen Melony rules in secret from Cafe La Fayette.

I’ll admit it, my writing stalled during Gen Con. I just had so much else going on that I took a break from Mississippi Queen and had some nerdy fun with friends for the Best Four Days in Gaming.

So, I thought I’d treat you with a peek at a new character from that second episode of Trans-Continental. Meet Queen Melony, a performer with pizazz and sass, who’s a savvy political tactician. She knows when to bluff and when to run, and she can bring the house down with her brassy rendition of the anthem of the Free City of New Orleans.

Girl in the Gears news: The audiobook format is recorded, edited, reviewed, and approved, waiting for final quality check by the powers that be before it goes live for sale on Audible/Amazon and iTunes!

Whiteboard Wednesday: Gen Con Day 0! (and Trans-Continental news) #amwriting

Artsgarden Selfie with Troll

Writing in the groove, sometimes I’m oblivious to my surroundings.

I’ll admit I rushed this one a bit, since I am off to stalk the convention center the day before Gen Con officially starts. I hope to get a little writing done, maybe in the Artsgarden, maybe not. Yes, that’s me on the left with the purple hair. I haven’t seen it outside yet, but it’s quite different. 🙂 I’ve had this goal of staying outside my comfort zone for a couple of years now, and this ought to do it.

But hey, Gen Con is my culture, my people. It’s like returning to some Brigadoon-like homeland that appears just once a year. I try to let myself not care what anyone thinks and let my geek/freak flag fly.

Other news!

Trans-Continental: Girl in the Gears is in its final stages, as editing is finished, and I just need to get the cover and some details taken care of. Should be coming to you soon through Audible and iTunes for your listening pleasure. I mean that too, my narrator is Angel Clark, and she does a spectacular job. Her voice characterizations really make the audiobook its own delightful experience, almost like a one woman radio play.

Meanwhile, I am 16,000 words into writing Trans-Continental: Mississippi Queen! My hope is to have the beta draft done by the end of the month. I have some folks reading along as I write it, and early feedback has been enthusiastic and positive. This likely means that I’ll have it out in ebook and print by the end of November.

For those of you going to Gen Con, I hope to see you there!

Whiteboard Wednesday: Sweet Caroline from Road Ghosts!

Caroline of the Road Ghosts Trilogy

Caroline first appears in Sinking Down, book 2 of the Road Ghosts Trilogy, and she takes charge right away.

Happy Whiteboard Wednesday! It’s my dear friend Heather’s birthday today, so I thought I’d draw one of her favorite characters from the Road Ghosts Trilogy. The eerie similarities between Caroline and Heather are purely coincidental, of course!

Caroline is Lizzie’s ghost-hunting best friend who jumps in to take charge when the gang needs help during Sinking Down. Her paranormal knowledge and leadership skills are invaluable in Me and the Devil as well. She and Brett may not always get along, but there’s no question that things wouldn’t be as fun without her.

Trans-Continental News and More Ida and Duffy for Whiteboard Wednesday!

Ida & Duffy on the way to New Orleans

Duffy and Ida beg, borrow, and steal transportation to make their way to New Orleans for Mississippi Queen!

I have finally kicked my butt in gear and have started the next episode of Trans-Continental, Mississippi Queen. I even have an unexpectedly early cover from Summer Willhite that knocked my socks off. I’ll have a cover reveal on that probably within a month.

My goal is to have book 2 out by September-October. It’s ambitious, but I think it can be done. I’ve got over 5000 words written already, and I intend to keep up that pace as best I can without going the total NaNoWriMo route of neglecting all else in my life.

So, in today’s Whiteboard Wednesday, our heroines, Ida and Duffy, tramp their way to New Orleans, which is where Mississippi Queen begins.

Whiteboard Wednesday: All Aboard the Steamship Marie Curie! (plus Trans-Continental news!) #steampunk

The Marie Curie

Ida, Duffy, and a couple of other characters find intrigue aboard the steamboat Marie Curie.

I can’t claim #amwriting this week, unless you count research and planning as writing. And you should never* count those as writing, because they don’t contribute directly to wordcount, and they can often delay a project. However, I’m pleased with how my concept for Trans Continental, Episode 2: Mississippi Queen is shaping up.

In other news, I am looking into making an audiobook version of Girl in the Gears, I’ll post more when I know something. SO EXCITED!

* Technically, I wrote down notes, so that’s writing. And never listen when writers advise “never do this”, it’s sensationalist bull that works for one writer, not all.
