Whiteboard Wednesday: Big Ol’ Smoocheroo (Sinking Down)

Shell smooches Brett

Shell catches Brett off guard at the County Cork with an unexpected kiss.

Caught on camera! Poor Brett. Just last night, he went looking for a chupacabra in the woods with his girlfriend Lizzie. Only they found a little ghoul instead, which she insisted on taking home. All he wants is a little time out with his buddy Gonzo, having a few pints at the pub, when he’s ambushed. A cute girl with blue bangs surprises him with a toe-curling kiss. Later, Lizzie sends him the photo. Busted! Worse, she says she’s leaving with her ex on a road trip with the little ghoul.

Even if you haven’t read Four ’til Late, each of the Road Ghosts Trilogy is written in a way that they can be read out of order. This book, Sinking Down, is special to me because the opening chapter came to me in a dream (and I woke up laughing!), it introduced Skye (who has gone on to have her own series), and has had the most reactions of “I did not see that coming!” from readers.

But hey, if you want to read them in order, you can pick up Four ’til Late for 99 cents until my publisher changes his mind.

Whiteboard Wednesday: More Four ’til Late!

A ghoulish trucker attacks Liz and Brett

Here’s another tablet-drawn Whiteboard Wednesday, continuing the celebration of the 99¢ pricing of Four ’til Late, the first book in the Road Ghosts Trilogy! October is coming, and this is a fun Halloween story full of suspense, humor, adventure, friendship, beer, and gumbo.

The book is both the kickoff to the Road Ghosts, but also a stand-alone novel, you won’t be left hanging at the end. Think Star Wars (A New Hope) vs the Original Trilogy of movies. The story continues in Sinking Down and Me and the Devil, but each is self contained.

Four til Late 99 cents!

Jimbo is clueless as Brett and Gonzo (and a friend) can’t believe their eyes!

This is where it all starts. Four friends take a wild haunted road trip, on their way through Memphis to New Orleans! Pursued by supernatural entities at every turn, they’re going to have to stick together to survive.

Seventh Star Press has set the first book‘s price at just 99 cents, so you too can take that ride. This is permanent unless my publisher changes their minds.

With October haunts approaching fast, you’d better hit the road and dig into the Road Ghosts Trilogy, starting with Four ’til Late!

“Well-timed backstory, well-drawn characters, and genuine scares all come together in a tale that hides wisdom behind its shroud of fog and fury. Join pagan witch, innocent bystander, and friends just looking for music and a well-chilled beer, and enjoy this Halloween tale.” — Sheila Deeth

“The main characters, even those that remained “off screen” for the most part, all felt like people I’ve known (and in some cases wanted to strangle), and I was genuinely interested in what was happening to them.” — Julia Kroon

Happy Birthday, Karl! (belated Whiteboard Wednesday)

Happy Birthday, Karl!

Wishing my brother happiness in Life, the Universe, and Everything!

Karl is an amazing guy, and I’m not just saying that because he’s my brother. He makes chainmaille jewelry and armor, he is a great dad to my nerdy nephews, he wrote a funny science fiction book of his own, and he beat cancer. We are siblings by birth, but friends by choice.

Happy birthday, Karl, I love you!

Helen Lake

Super Trek Fan, Helen Lake!

Today’s Whiteboard Wednesday features a dear friend of mine, Helen Lake! She’s not only a fellow Five Year Mission fan, not only last year’s Fan Guest of Honor at Starbase Indy, but she’s also read more of my books than almost anyone. If you know her, be sure to wish her a happy birthday. May she live long and prosper!

Frannie and her “Ghost” — Whiteboard Wednesday

Frannie and her Ghost

Frannie and her “Ghost”

I missed Whiteboard Wednesday last week, but here’s a rare appearance by Frannie of the Road Ghosts Trilogy (spoiler: she is also in the upcoming Restless Spirit, another Tipsy Fairy Tale!). Trailing behind her, as some would be able to see, is her “ghost”. If you haven’t read Four ’til Late and Sinking Down, I won’t spoil it for you here!

Fun facts about Frannie: Like Skye, she’s a gamer girl, and as her t-shirt suggests, she’s into video games (she met the love of her life, Jimbo, on World of Warcraft) and roleplaying games. She’s also a ghost hunter and has been through more changes than anyone in the Road Ghosts Trilogy. She’s still a cheerfully big girl, though some traumas have taken weight off of her. Though she’s also lost some of her obnoxious edgy personality, she’s gained some wisdom and strength in the process. I hope to write some Frannie-centric stories someday, as she’s a somewhat overlooked character.

When worlds collide… a guest post on the Blue Spirit Blog Tour finds me talking about being out as transgender and also being an author with a couple of bylines.

By Any Other Name: Why I am an Out and Proud Transgender Author

By E. Chris Garrison

When I first started putting myself out there as an author, I used my first name, Eric, although I hadn’t gone by it since 1999, using my middle name instead. Why did I drop Eric in 1999? Well, as the title of this article implies, I am transgender. Which means, I have felt for most of my life that I should have been born a girl. A fact I hid as a very close secret for decades, because the world wasn’t very friendly toward people like me. It still isn’t, but it’s gotten much better in the past 10 years.

So if I was going by Chris, why did my books say Eric? Well, I’d published articles in college as Eric, when I was part of the staff of the Purdue Engineer Magazine…
